Temporary does not mean sloppy
A temporary repair's job is to keep weather out of the building until permanent work can be done safely, often when more rain is forecast or the full fault needs dry conditions. It is standard on storm call-outs, not a way to avoid proper fixings.
What temporary work looks like on site
Securing lifted long-run sheets, heavy-duty cover over an opening, tying down iron before the next front, or sealing a failed penetration until flashings can be replaced properly. Riccarton commercial leak work used a weekend temporary repair that held well until permanent scope was booked.
In St Albans, storm damage with water through the ceiling got emergency temporary repairs first, then a return visit for the permanent solution. Angela Doyle's blow-off job was secured past 10pm before new steel went on two days later.
When we can fix permanently on the first visit
Nine times out of ten we stop active leaks on the spot when weather and access allow. A Cashmere Sunday job used a temporary fix pending permanent work only because the full scope needed a dry window.
Call-out fee and follow-on work
We quote the emergency call-out fee on the phone before dispatch. If you proceed with our quoted permanent repair and we could not complete a temporary fix on the spot, the call-out fee credits toward the final invoice.
