Extend the longevity of your property with expert reroofing

Is your roof showing signs of deterioration due to years of exposure to harsh Canterbury weather conditions? Noticed a few gaps, cracks or a sneaky leak during the last downpour? Besides being an immediate nuisance, these issues can indicate a larger problem with your roof, especially if you have an older home.

In some cases, reroofing - replacing the entire existing roof - is the most cost-effective option.  But reroofing is no small task. It entails addressing everything from missing nails and broken tiles to ageing roofing materials. As an established roofing company, you can trust Winter & Son Roofing to have all the experience you need to replace your roof efficiently and professionally resulting in a brand new roof that will last for many more years.

At Winter & Son Roofing, we reroof residential properties and light commercial buildings up to 6000 square feet across Christchurch and the wider Canterbury region. View our gallery of custom roofing projects and then get in touch to arrange a quote for roofing services.

Why replace your roof?

There are two main reasons for replacing your roof.

The first is that your roof is deteriorating and has reached a point where roof repairs are no longer viable. It may be that the damage is too extreme or covers too large a part of the roof. Signs that your roof needs replacing include:

  • broken or missing shingles or tiles
  • buckling or warping of longrun roofing
  • rust
  • excess moss or mould
  • sagging ceilings inside or mould or damp spots on your ceiling where the roof is leaking

The second reason is aesthetics. Perhaps your roof is sound but just looking a little old and you want to refresh it, or perhaps you want to give the property a facelift with a new roof material or colour. A new roof can help you do just that.

Our thorough process ensures a successful outcome

Our process starts with a site visit and inspection so we can give you an accurate quote for reroofing. Variables that need to be considered include:

  • size and shape of your roof
  • roof pitch/angle
  • how easy is it to access the property and how much room is there for us to work
  • the roofing material that is currently on your roof
  • whether the roof framing is in good condition or needs work.
  • what kind of edge protection/scaffold is needed
  • what the new roofing material going to be
Once we've arranged a quote and you've accepted, we'll set a date for the work. It helps if you can remove any outdoor furniture or ornaments that are in the work area and get any overhanging branches from trees removed.

Before installing your new roof, we'll carefully remove and dispose of the existing long-run or tiled roofing. Then we'll inspect the timber structure and carry out any necessary repairs or replace parts of the structure if needed.

Once the structure is sound we'll install the new roof as per your specifications. Roofs are installed using quality fixings to ensure the roof is strong and to eliminate the risk of leaks.

The only change to this process comes if asbestos is known to be present or is found in the roof. In that case, we'll engage a specialist third-party asbestos removal company to strip the existing roof and deal with any asbestos before we install the new roof.

We pride ourselves on open communication throughout our roofing projects so you'll be kept informed every step of the way.

Choose from a range of roofing styles and colours

We use Colorsteel roofing products for durability and style. Options include:

Traditional long-run roofing

This roofing is a popular choice in New Zealand, and comes in a range of colours to suit your preferences.

Architectural tray roofing

This type of roofing is a newer product but is becoming more popular. It offers cleaner lines and a more modern profile than normal long-run roofing.
We can also supply and install Colorsteel wall cladding for a contemporary look that complements or contrasts with your roofing.
